Reading from “Influence,” winner of the Salam Award for Imaginative Fiction

Akbar Shahzad is a writer, actor and comedian based in Karachi, Pakistan. He studied long-form improvisation at the iO Theater in Chicago. He writes incessantly and teaches drama to support the habit. In quieter moments, while hanging with the dog or the cats, he considers abandoning it all to go live in the Himalayas, which are at a convenient distance. Of late he has been losing sleep over Sebald and Bellow because they were about as good as he would like to be, but for now he is 26 and subject to change.
