Padgett Powell is the author of six novels, including Edisto, a National Book Award finalist, and two collection of stories, including his most recent, Cries for Help, Various. His writing has appeared in Harper’s, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, as well as in Best America Short Stories and Best American Sports Writing. He has received a Whiting Writers Award, the Rome Fellowship in Literature from the Academy of Arts and Letters, and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. Powell lives in Gainesville where he co-directs and teaches at the MFA@FLA at the University of Florida.
