Alejandro Mujica is a graduate student working on his M.F.A. in Creative Writing at the University of Central Florida. He has interned for the UCF-run Cypress Dome literary journal and The Florida Review, for which he served as the Assistant Editor in 2010 and 2011. He is the co-founder of the Student Veterans Association and its former Director of Public Relations. Alejandro is currently working on a compilation of poems, fiction and creative nonfiction for a memoir revolving around his experiences in the Marine Corps, and serving in Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also aims to encourage other veterans to take up creative writing through his Veterans’ Writing Group of Central Florida project.
It's taken two years of being “normal” to return to the VA Medical Center. “Normal” is what the psychotherapist told me. One year out of the military, inactive, and treatment felt like a healthy choice. Two years later, it feels like a necessity.
