Caroline Walker is a writer, producer and amateur explorer originally from Rock Island, Illinois. She is thrilled to be in Florida as the Kerouac Project’s Fall 2012 Writer-in-Residence, where she is working on her first book, America Underground. As a Walker, Caroline has hiked many miles of tunnels, mines, architectural time capsules, trails, not-yet-trails, roads, shorelines, cityscapes, caves, graveyards and abandoned buildings. Using place as connective tissue, her work explores people’s relationship to the land—and unseen value below the surface.
